But, what is the Pathways and why is the Politics for Unity Movement involved in a special way this year?

Pathways for a United World is a [global] strategy aiming to address the local and global challenges facing our world by sparking personal and collective processes of change, opening up ways to build a more fraternal and sustainable world, a more united world.

It is promoted by the non-governmental organization New Humanity through the United World Project.

Mario Bruno, President of MPPU, gave us a reflection to understand what is the role of our network to promote and be part of this call #daretocare.

“The #daretocare Pathway for the Politics for Unity Movement is important because it deepens precisely the year in which active citizenship and the policy for unity is highlighted throughout the Focolare Movement and even outside of it, with a special input from young people.

Our role – of us who are politicians, officials, diplomats, scholars of politics, citizens who fully exercise politics – is to be transformative, to be a stimulus, to be of help. To make available our experience, our concrete action in the world with the fraternity that inspires all our actions; but also to share the research, the study done so far, the doctrine that has emerged; “new words for a new world”. This is what we want to do together: together with the young people in a special way and together with all those who find in this Pathway a way to express new words, those that the world certainly expects from us. It is a way to form all of us, to act – personally and together – and it is a way to share this new culture.

It is a concrete way to take care not only of the person at our side, but of a greater love; to take care of the community, to take care of a group of people who in the method of fraternity, in the method of dialogue, in the method of respect for confrontation, want to find together the solutions for today’s world, but not so for the world in general, but for each situation from the smallest neighborhood, the smallest city, to the country, the relationship between countries and the united world. This is the goal, and this is why the goal of the Pathway coincides with the goal of the Politics for Unity Movement; somehow it is an expression of it and we want to accompany it by acting as a background, carrying out to the end this action of concrete help of stimulus, but also of curious, attentive, trusting and participating listening to what emerges above all from the new generations.

It begins with this Pathway, which in the appointment of May 2021 in Brussels will have its conclusion but it will be the beginning of an important stage for all of us who want to embody this Charism of Unity in politics, and in concrete action”.

To go further:

Pathways for a United World, is a 6-year global journey that highlights 6 different ways to respond to the challenges of the world we live in by promoting best practices, processes, personal and collective initiatives — be they on a small or large scale, on a regular or one-off basis — which contribute to change, building a more fraternal and sustainable future. Through this strategy, the United World Project would like to help achieve the Global Goals, the 17 Goals for Sustainable Development set by the United Nations to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and stop climate change by 2030.

The 6 Pathways for a United World:

Economy, work and communion (2018/2019)

Human rights, peace, legality and justice (2019/2020)

Active citizenship and politics for unity (2020/2021)

Dialogue between different people, cultures, churches, religions and different mindsets (2021/2022)

Human dignity, culture of life and environmental protection (2022/2023)

Art, beauty and social harmony (2023/2024)

The Pathways strategy can be broken down in three steps:

LEARN study and be informed

We gather information on the topics that are the focus of the current Pathway and study them in relation to the challenges of the contemporary world.
